Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in last fall and handed more than a 27-year term in jail, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.

This involved seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a document approving the arrest, the judge said data from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his son.

His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a assembly of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

The senator wrote on online platforms on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or see it all from your phone there on your settee? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's ruling was the possibility of his transfer to diplomatic missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a record of organizing to request asylum through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork highlights that the American diplomatic mission in the capital, Brasilia, is situated around 8 miles from Bolsonaro's home.

Global Responses

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist United States President Donald Trump, causing him to impose a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.

Bolsonaro is being detained in a national police facility in the capital and will undergo a detention review on the next day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on Friday that the his legal team asked the Top Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that Bolsonaro be authorized to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he demanded frequent medical attention for respiratory ailments and other illnesses.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was found guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the presidential race to his political opponent, President Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a scheme which involved plans to kill his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The plot was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the armed forces officials. The current president was sworn in without incident on 1 January 2023.

But a following week, on the eighth of January, many Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised government buildings in the national capital, Brasília.

The security forces stepped in and around approximately 1,500 persons were arrested.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by him whose scheme, they said, was for the country's army to take action, restore order and reinstate his authority.

At the period, the legal team called the over 27-year sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also banned from seeking elected position until 2060 - eight years later after the completion of his term.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was aimed at blocking him participating in the next presidential race.
