Vehicles in German Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police stated they were alerted by a resident who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say early analysis show the fluid was likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for information.

A senior official said the incident made him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
